Shock Absorber

Lingerie Glossary

Adjustable back
The back of a garment, which has multiple settings usually an adjustable hook and eye closure, to allow for individual sizing preferences.

Adjustable strap
Straps can be shortened or lengthened to provide the desired fit.

Air bra
A bra that contains air filled cushions within the cups for a fuller natural shape, lighter than gel filled.

Athletic underwear
Garments that are designed to be worn for athletic activities, including the gym, sports, running, biking etc. These garments are specifically designed to give extra support, comfort and extra ventilation, view our: Ladies Athletic Underwear

Baby doll
A baby doll is a short nightgown, which may have ruffles, bows or ribbons and different styles of adjustable straps. Sometimes they are made from sheer material.

Balconette or Balcony bra
This style of bra gives a push up effect with side set straps and a horizontal bust line, view our: Balconette Bras

Bandeau
A strapless bra with an extra wide band worn around the bust line.

Basque
The modern basque features lace up or hook and eye fastening, as well as boning. Unlike the bustier the basque is longer in length and goes all the way down to the hips.

Bikini
A low cut panty, offers more coverage than a thong but less than a standard brief. The sides are usually high cut with strings or with thin widths of fabric. View our: Swimwear range

Bodice
This garment covers the upper part of a womans body including the breasts.

Boxer shorts
A mans loose fitting under shorts, with an elastic waistband and open, loose fitting around the legs.

Boxer briefs
A close fitting brief with a pouch and often a fly opening

Boy short
A short also known as hot pants, providing full coverage, view all: Shorts

Bras
Is the shortened word for brassiere. A womans close-fitting undergarment which is worn to support the breasts, view all: Bras

Bra size
A bra size is determined by measuring around the fullest part of the bust and under the breasts. See our bra size measuring guide.

Brassiere
Is the original word for bra. A womans close fitting undergarment worn to give support to the breasts, view our: Brassieres

Bra cup
The fabric that surrounds and supports the breast.

Brief
A close fitting undergarment with an elastic waistband, which provides full back coverage. view our selection of: Ladies Briefs

Bustier
A bustier is similar to a basque, its length varies from the bust down to between the ribcage and the hips.

Camisole
A camisole or cami is a sleeveless top, which covers from bust to waist and offers little or no support to the breasts.

Chemise
A loose straight hanging undergarment or loose fitting dress, usually with thin straps

Clear bra straps
Transparent bra straps made from stretchy synthetics. This type of strap is ideal to wear under garments where the strap is visible.

Cleavage
The seperation/gap visible between a womans breast, when low cut garments are worn.

Control brief

Corset
An undergarment that is boned and usually features lace up fastening. A corset covers the bust and extends down to the waist or below. A corset supports the bust from underneath, it is ideal if you need a smaller waist in a hurry, as it can reduce your waist measurement from two to four inches.

Demi bra
Is a low cut bra designed to enhance the cleavage.

Fly front
An opening at the front of mens underwear. The fly can be a vertical, slanted or horizontal overlapping opening, that is kept closed by the overlapping design, buttons or snaps.

Front fastening
A bra that fastens at the front between the breasts, usually a hook, barrel or clasp fastener is used.

Full brief
A style of brief that has a full bottom coverage and a low leg line.

Full cup bra

Full figure bras
Are designed with wider straps and extra hook and eye fastenings, more fabric is used to give more support.

Full support bra
A full support bra usually has underwire and comes in padded or unpadded versions.

Fully padded bra
This bra is designed to give a smooth look and uses fibrefill or foam to enhance smaller breast size and give an extra cup size.

Garters
An elastic leg band, which was originally designed to hold up stockings.

Gel filled bras
A bra that contains gel filled cushions within the cups for a fuller natural shape.

G-string
This garment gives less coverage than a thong, with virtually no back coverage. A small panel held to the body with strings.

Gusset
A gusset is a cotton lining located in the crotch area of a panty.

Half cup bra
A half cup bra is similar to a balcony bra but without the push up effect.

Halter neck
This style of garment features a strap, which may fasten around the neck exposing the shoulders and upper back. The strap may be fastened by a tie, clasp or an adjustable strap that slides over he head.

High leg
A panty that fits high over the thigh and hip. This style of panty offers full back coverage.

Non-wired bra
Is also known as soft cup bra, which as no underwires, and can also have lining or padding.

Padded bras
A type of bra with padded cups. Padding is designed to give a fuller looking bust and add a cup size to smaller breasts.

Panty

Plunge
Plunge bras are designed to reveal more breast and create the appearance of increased cleavage. With angled cups and a thin centre gore. View our selection of: Plunge bras

Push-up bra
A pushup bra uses padding or gel to give you a fuller looking bust and the illusion of a bigger breast size. View our : Pushup bras

Shelf bra
A shelf bra has underwire, and littile or no cups. This bra will support your breasts while displaying most of your breast and nipples.

Soft-cup bra
A soft cup bra uses elastic instead of wire under the cups for support, and is very popular with A & B sizes women.

Sports bra
A supportive bra worn during exercise, it is especially designed to reduce bounce. With wider straps and broader cup coverage. View our: Sports bras

Strapless bra
This bra has no straps or removable straps and has wide sides with a triple hook fastening. It is mainly worn with tops where a normal bra would be visible.

Thong

T-shirt bra

Underwear
